the mucus plug [probably gross and graphic]

i was just wondering....

what is it like to lose the mucus plug? i can find plenty of discriptions online about what can happen when your water breaks, but i didn't find anything describing what it's like to discharge/lose the mucus plug?

is it just a lot of discharge with a bit of spotting? will i "know"?

since my doctor thinks i'll go into labor soon, i'm supposed to watch for it. but i dont know what to watch for.

Yes you would know, and its like a rush of water.

Thats why they call it 'water breaking'.

It shouldn't be bloody either and its going to be noticeable like a rush.

However, I went into labor and went 12 hours and my water still had not broken. The doctor had to break my water. Eventually I had a Csection but anyway, not everyones water breaks.

Also, just because your water has to be broken by the doctor doesn't mean you wouldn't have a normal labor and delivery.

Thats about all I know because my water didn't break of its on accord..

Good luck, getting close... How exciting!

I had an appt on a friday, I was 40weeks 3 days pregnant.. I dont know all the numbers but I was 2cm dialated... I was going to be induced on the Monday but my doc thought I would go before the weekend was over...

On the Sunday I woke up with contractions... finally after 13hours I couldnt handle it anymore we went to get checked out.. I was still 2cm!!!!

The doctor ended up telling us that baby was over 8lbs and my birthcanal was very narrow so it would be a long and hard labour so if we wanted we could have a c section immediately.. so thats what I did... 13hours and in insane pain and I was still 2cm and in the early stages of labour.... Im glad we made that choice....

i hope mine doesn't come down to that, i'd really rather avoid a c-section if at all possible.
