Is it common to feel this way if you don't have enough sleep?

Whenever I get a lot less sleep than I need I notice I stutter, have extremely low confidence, get easily depressed or suicidal, and pretty much have to write off the day other than finish my 8 hours at work.

I admire those people who can just live off on 4-6 hours of sleep a day. Unfortunately I'm the type who needs at least 5 hours a day otherwise I'm just a mess.

Anyone out there who feels the same way?

Actually, I do. I'm a college student and notice huge changes if i have got enough sleep or not. If i have had a night where i slept 4 hours, i go to class the next day trying to listen to my professors and feeling stupid because i can't get a dang thing in my head, lol. Then if you recieve an assignment, you're so sleepy you can't complete it, which then makes you frustrated and for some reason it makes me feel really angry and depressed. I think lack of sleep=depression and in some individuals, suicidal thoughts. I'm by no means suicidal but sometimes it gets the best of me and i think of it, but i really could never go through with it and i know that. But yeah, your best bet is to just try to keep to a good sleeping schedule. Try reducing your tv time, online time, etc. if this is the culprit that takes away hours from your sleep.

Maybe you're already dealing with these issues and your lack of sleep/conscience brings it out. I don't think many people that don't get enough sleep become suicidal overnight.
But yes, I do feel like hell if I didn't get enough sleep, but not to that extreme.

You should be getting 7-8 hours of sleep every night in that case. If you have trouble falling asleep do things to fix the problem. First try exercising more, then look online and find natural ways to get more sleep, if that doesn't work get over the counter sleeping pills, if that doesn't work I would see I doctor.

When I don't get enough sleep, I get extremely emotional.

Same case with me. If I sleep after 11.30 PM, I'll have a bad/depressed mood the next day. My thoughts won't be clear and will have difficulty communicating.

I feel this way anyway- but getting no sleep makes you feel even more overwhelmed, if you are already.
