Pursue career in education???
Ok so I'm in my third year of university and I've been thinking for a couple of years of applying to education. Well I got all the forms and everything, booked apointments for my oral and written tests (I go to a french university and to be able to teach in french schools you have to pass these two really difficult tests). We also have to write a sort of autobiography and answer a whole bunch of questions about our best qualities and why we want to be a teacher and all that.
It's a lot of work, and last week I went to Mexico so I didn't get it done. Now it's all due on monday and I am so stressed out. I know that I shouldn't have left it for this late. But now I'm wondering if teaching is really what I want to do. I don't really know anymore. Maybe I can help people in a different, better way. Maybe social work, or any other careers. I'm just really stressed out and I need some opinions on my situation, or if anyone can relate to what I'm going through, that would be great. Also, if someone knows of a good career choice for a student with a french degree that would be great. Thanks in advance for the input.

Hey, I'm thinking about teaching english in Japan. So, I am majoring in Japanese.
Still early in the game, but I can kind of see where you are coming from. The professor life is something that I'd love. Great community, many resources, constantly talking about your favourite subject. Plus, I love kids. |

Firstly, your looking at teaching as a way of helping people, that's a brilliant idealism that gives us hope and inspiration to be teachers, but don't forget in reality there may be one pupil who wants to learn, but many will not want to learn, will be rowdy and thwart your efforts at every turn, so if the fact that your a little late in filling out your paperwork is making you re-consider then maybe teaching isn't for you.
Teaching is good for some things, that one pupil who you inspire, teaching something you enjoy, the good holidays and realtively good pay. I think becoming a translator or interpreter is a good move, especially if you can get in with a good business, in that case you may be able to travel alot, or you could even work from home on the internet if you want to be a translator, they get paid a bomb! but then your job has to make you feel good, it has to be something that you want to go to each day when you wake up (at least in theory- because we know how stressful things can get- especially a bunch of noisy kids!) so it's your choice, and if you put in the hours (lack of sleep may be necessary if your good at concentrating on low power) you can get the paperwork done if you want, believe in yourself! if you can't inspire yourself how are you going to be able to inspire the children |

Are you a natural procrastinator or is this the one time you have procrastinated? I'd buckle down now and at least try to be admitted to the program, if you do think you really want to do it. Do some research and see if it's what you really want, perhaps your right and subconsciously you don't.
Good luck.
