Thinking too much about oneself
There have been quite a few threads on this site in the past few weeks that involve someone spending a lot of time thinking about the future, their shortcomings, what have you. I think, in large part, the reason we complain about so many things in life is because of the laziness to become more active and engaged in whatever brings meaning to our own life. For some, going to work brings joy. For others, playing music might be what drives a person. Thing is, it may all be a pipe dream if you spend more time thinking about what you want than you do actually making some kind of progress. It takes quite a bit of risk to chase after what you want in life. Sometimes it isn't failure which we fear, but success. That may sound ridiculous, but this so is one of the hindrances which can hold us back from achieving what we want in life.
If you care too much about what others think and spend a bulk of your time pondering the what-ifs, that many days will go by that you are missing some kind of opportunity (or multiple opportunities). As was mentioned in a different thread, the only meaning of life is one that you find on your own. There is great risk in both stepping out of your comfort zone and doing what you desire in life, and thinking too about what you want and not actually trying to do it. However, the latter will most likely bring you greater suffering. The artist yearning to become a master will only suffer for however long the real work is avoided. The point is - complaining about life will not change anything. It will keep you in a neutral position or drop the bar even lower. So then when it comes time to trying to do what you want, there is going to be an even deeper hole to climb out of before you begin to walk your own path.

Wow, thank you for that, easyguy. It speaks so directly to a few things in my life, that I almost wonder if you were writing that specifically for me (you weren't were you? hahaha...)
It's just really hard when there have been so many forces that have worked against one...being tired of climbing out of that hole can really make it seem even deeper. I'm always amazed at your insights.
