Want to do Yoga

Hi everyone I am starting yoga I think it will be a cool thing to do. I really wanna see what its like and I want to be flexible too. I am a guy starting it at my school and I was wondering what I needed to bring to first day of class. What are some things guys should wear? Do I need a mat too?

Thanks

For the love of Lycra, nothing that hugs too tight downstairs, the world gives us women enough things to be distracted by wear whatever is comfortable for you, after a couple of lessons you'll catch onto what others are wearing and adjust. I think most classes provide mats, I would call ahead of time just in case. DOn't wear anything that restricts your movement too much. Have fun with it!

Yoga mat, yes.

Confortable, loos shorts and shirt work just fine.

Some people will bring their own mats even if the class provides them or a towel to put on the class mats. Either way bring a towel as sometimes you'll use it as a pillow or to roll up for under your neck. A pair of loose sweats or shorts, a t-shirt and a bottle of water are probably the only other things you'll need. Enjoy it!

I also agree to bring one or two small towels. Some centers will provide mats or rent them to you. Don't invest the $30 or whatever in buying one until you know it's an activity you'll enjoy.

I would wear a t-shirt and sweatpants. Loose shorts might be a bad idea because you're going to be stretching into funny positions and I'd hate for your little friends to make an appearance.

Take off your outside shoes wherever everyone else does and wear your socks into the room. Once you get on the mat, take off your socks. Yoga is normally done barefoot.

You should be able to find yoga mats for much cheaper than that. I paid $10 for mine at a local sports shop.

Anything more than that is a rip.

I love yoga! Been doing it for almost 8 years I think now.

Do you know what form of yoga you are doing. If you are doing hot yoga, I suggest lots of water bottles, extra towels, very cool shorts, possibly a headband to keep sweat out of your eyes and yes a mat.

Most places by the way will HAVE mats, but the idea grosses me out....people are sweating on those things.

If it is NOT a hot yoga class - just shorts, maybe a light synthetic t if you are uncomfortable, water and a towel - if your hands get sweaty you will want it to wipe them off so you don't slip (you can also put it on your mat).

And an open mind, and a willingness to be open to it. Sometimes you need to try a few yoga instructors before you get the right one for you......and don't PUSH yourself past your point. Postures take time to develop.

Good Luck!
