STD Testing

Can you get tested at your doctor? or do you need to go somewhere special?

If not, then your doctor will probably refer you to an OBGYN.

Is there a planned parenthood in your area??

sounds like you will have to either travel to take one or buck up and pay for it full price.
I went to the local clinic and got one for $35.

I'm sure if your own doctor is a general practioner, that he/she can test you. So I think you should start there first. You probably will get an appointment more easily if you're already established at their practice, and you will probably feel more comfortable with your own doctor too. (I'm also assuming since you chose them to be your doctor, that they take your insurance?)

You can call and ask for an emergency visit. If you don't feel like getting into detail with the receptionist on the phone, tell them you think you have a UTI. That should work to get you in quickly, and at least it is in the general region you need to get checked. Then talk to your doc privately, in more detail when you get there.

Usually your doctor can do this for you but the problem is that you usually have to set up an appointment.

Try to go to a free/walk in clinic that can take you on the spot.

Last month, after doing something really stupid (unprotected sex with someone I didn't know a lot about), I called in to talk to my doctor and told her nurse that I wanted to get STD/HIV testing done. The doctor called me back, scheduled tests and I just went to the lab and got it done. Then next day, I called in again and found out my test results.

The entire thing cost (all STDs: urine and blood HIV test) about $343 and the insurance assigned most everything to deductible (*holes) because it was year end. I have to pay $200.

I just got tested today for everything, blood and urine. The doctor told me that the results should take about a week.
