Question before my surgery

I am having ACL reconstruction surgery thursday, along with a couple other things that I have wrong with my knee. I was wondering if they will cancel it if I have a small cold? My throat is sore a little but my nose isn't stop up. I really want to get this sugery over with since its requires serious rehab. Does anybody know? I looked on the internet but couldn't really find any answers.

Slight colds they don't generally cancel with. If it gets worse or develops into a more significant infection then possibly, yes.

Do you know if you're having a general anaesthesia? A lot of knee surgeries just have locals nowadays, which means you don't have to be knocked out or tubed.

Some surgeons give you antibiotics as a precaution after knee surgery too.

Most likely not. A cold should not hinder your recovery.

Good luck! My, your little girl has gotten big!

I went in for breast reduction surgery I had a severe cold, and they still went through with it, no problem. When I woke up from surgery, miraculously it seems my cold was gone. I wonder what they slipped me?? hee hee....good luck. my sister had the same surgery as what you are about to have and I can tell you, she recovered fairly quickly.

yes, it will be general anaesthesia. I tore my ACL, but I've also tore both of my meniscus, sprained my MCL, dislocated my knee and something else. I can't remember them all. I'm glad that a cold won't hurt it. Ive been worried about it all night. I'm starting to get stuffy and almost feel feverish, but I'm not. My daughter had her 2nd birthday party and one of the kids were sick. which is why I am sick

Thank you hope 75. She is getting big. The picture on here is even 8 months old. They grow up way too fast!

Just get some rest, drink your fluids, and let your surgeon know ahead of time about your cold, but seriously doubt it will change anything.

Also, stay away from NSAIDS which are part of some cold preparations- in fact, your surgeon should have provided you with a list of medications to stay away from for X amount of time before your surgery, as it may adversely affect it.

I believe Tylenol is OK but I would check with the surgeon first.

yeah. i'd stay away from cold and flu remedies and pills. those are some of the first things docs ask of you for anything. 'taking any medications?' local anesthesia can have adverse affects with other drugs. i don't think your body is at risk performance wise. i think that is what they are mostly concerned with.

The biggest concern with NSAIDS is that they thin the blood and there is a risk of hemorrhage with surgery.

But there is a list of other drugs that can also create problems that a surgeon should have provided to the OP as well.

oh i know. i think the biggest thing they look for is potential breathing problems though. blood too, but mostly possible lung trouble. blood cause they will be putting a needle in your arm most likely.
