IBU profen

I always knew that antibiotics can affect hormonal b/c, but can IBUprofen? I haven't been able to find any specific info on my b/c package, or on my bottles of Advil, Ibuprofen, etc... Boyfriend is worried that all the Ibuprofen I've been taking could have affected birth control (nuvaring). Thanks for any info you can provide!

No, it doesn't affect the effectiveness of your birth control. The reason you can't find anything is because it's not a problem.

I haven't heard anything about it affecting birth control, and I've actually read that antibiotics aren't a problem with methods of hormonal birth control other than the pill, because of how they're introduced in the system. If you have questions about conflicts like this, you can always call up the health care professional who prescribed the birth control to you and ask - it's the best way to be 100% certain.

The only interactions I've heard of between ibuprofen and birth control was with Yas, it causes increased potassium levels, but there is nothing about the effectiveness of the bc being decreased.

Oh good news all around then. I wasn't worried, but the bf sure gets worried! I will make sure to ask next time I pick up new packs. Maybe get it in writing for him
