Moving away...

Not sure if this is the right forum or whatever, but here goes...

I'm 23. I currently live at home, but I plan on changing that...but in a big way. I've wanted to (for a few years anyways) move out west. I wanted to go for school, tried to go out there with my ex, and I still want to this day. I feel I'm in a decent postion to do this in the new year. I'm done school now, have some experience in my field (trades), and have a little bit of family out there for support.

I plan on going by myself. I know I'm in for a tough battle, being my first time away from home and all. But I'm at a point my life where I really want a change. I want to experience new things, and follow my dreams. I've always been so reserved, and taken the 'safe' route. I don't want to do that anymore.

Only problem is I have no idea how to even go about starting this process. Has anybody on here done something like this, especially all by themselves? Any advice or success stories of moving away, or even stories of failure. I'd just like to hear about people's exeperiences.

hmmm well im also 23 and decided to chase my dreams. I didnt have any support in doing this, but I felt that if people werent supporting me then they didnt really want me to be truley happy. I finished school and left my family. I learnt alot. I am also looking for a one bedroom place by myself. I dont want to live with anyone, and I never wanted to move in with a male/boyfriend just because I wanted to move out. I want to be an independant woman and I am on my way hopefully of becoming just that. I believe we are more than old enough to look after ourselves...all i know is I want to live life with freedom and if freedom means moving out and living by myself so be it.

dont know whether that helped at all really..but just letting you know I have recently had to face the same decisions as you.

If you have family out there, why not go out there for a couple of weeks and check out the job prospects...line up some interviews. Once you line up a job, the rest will fall into place.

I moved to a different city when I was not quite 21 and was starting grad school. It was a big adjustment at first. Took about a year to get used to being on my own. Had a lot of moral support from my parents. It is a great learning experience moving to a different city.

Seems to me like the perfect place to start your thread here. This should prove to be a time of a lot of adjustment, growth and change for you, hopefully for the better. Good for you. I would definately call on the family out there for support right off the start. Atleast until you have something lined up and you're settled.
