Acne question cure?

My son is beginning to develop a slight case of acne on this nose and chin.
Smallish red bumps. Is using an astrigent good for keeping it clean, or would it be too harsh for a 12 year old's skin?
Any other suggestions?
He's off candy, sweets, chips and the like, and is drinking a lot of water.
TIA,
KG

It's hormones, diet won't affect it either way, althoug healthy eating is simply a good idea anyeay.

Don't use any of those harsh chemincals on his skin, he's 12, he's gonna get pimples, don't sweat it.

You might want to think about getting a zineryt prescription if it gets really bad. However, if it's only a few spots, it's hardly worth it.

^^^^^^^Yes, acne is different to pimples. Acne is a real problem, but if its a few pimples, then it's nothing to worry about, just clean face each night and morning and dont squeeze.

I will have to disagree big time on this. Accutane is for people who have it all over there bodies and is just painful and endless ammounts. He said his son has a sligh case. The biggest side effect of Accutane is suicidal thoughts. I've read so many negative reviews about it. It works for some, but I would trade acne over mental stablity anyday. Resort to Accutane as a last resort, but first you can try the basics. But it seems to me he just has the usual basic acne every teen gets.

I have chest acne from working out, so what I do is go in the steam room after I work out and then use proactive. It helps a lot. Just make sure he showers everyday, washes his acne in the morning and night. Always wear clean cloths, and change your bed sheets/pillow cases. Many oils/dead skin cells are left behind on your sheets. Also, I am very sensitive to soaps with additives that include scents and lotions. He might be as well. Purchase a loofa and some acne body wash (get it at walmart). To dry of skin also causes acne, so I reccomend getting clean and clear acne lotion (can be gnereric too, just make sure it has Salicylic Acid in it) Use that lotion after he cleans his face. Works like a charm!

My skin is super sensitive, some laundry detertegent just sets off acne on me. I gotta be very careful... lol it sucks. If you need any help with anything ,especially prodcuts (i've tried them all) let me know.

my son is just 13 and has developed quite a few pimples/blackheads over the past year or so. astringents can dry the skin in other areas out unnecessarily, a light facial wash is sufficient in most cases. it's just a case of keeping on top of the hygiene regime/keeping hands aways from face/changing pillows often etc. I'd recommend steaming if blackheads become a problem.

I agree that accutane is probably not your answer. The side effects can be too great for an acute case.

KG laying off of sweets adn drinking water is good for his overall health but won't affect his pimples. This is caused from blocked pore ducts and even just washing one's face wno't clear it up. As a matter of fact too stringent of washing will make it worse as it will aggravate the condition.

if it is mild a topical of benzoil peroxide (now OTC) can help.

Those smallish red bumps are not really severe and are sometimes part of puberty. Accutane would be used for cystic acne, i.e. much more severe.

yeah, tell him not to squeeze. That causes more damage to the pore and possible scarring. LIke anya stated steaming out blackheads is the best method, tell him to try to squeeze those out after a hot shower. They are different than the pimples, they do need to come out as they are a permanently blocked pore and will cause more pimple.s

Welcome to puberty. LOL (your son, not you LOL)
