What Are Your Dreams?

Okay, there is a lot of hurt and pain here, and we have all been through the wringer, BUT, we all have dreams and goals.

During these trying times it is easy to lose sight of them. I thought it might be fun/nice to tell everyone just what it is you want from life? What are your dreams? Goals? Don't care if they sound silly or grandiose, put 'em down! I'd love to see what makes y'all tick!

Here are mine:

Want to have my own home, much like the one I am in right now, tucked away in the Mountains, near the ocean. A open timber, log home with good lighting, and a warmth that radiates "come in friends, have a glass of wine, kick your feet up and talk for a while." Of course, the skis are in the corner, the dogs are playing and jumping about, and such.

I want that home, complete with the dogs, and a couple of snot-noses running around wreaking havoc in the house. I want to teach my kids how to ski and raft. I want to see them grow and learn the animals of the forest, and teach them an appreciation for the wilds.

Of course, that entails finding the right partner!

And beyond that, I want to be able to travel when I want, where I want. I don't need first class (although that is nice!) but I want the freedom to be able to spend a month in Mongolia when I want.

I want to continue my commitment to community. To be part of something bigger than myself is so important to me. To be a part of the community and give back is not just a dream, it is necessary.

I want to become a MUCH better photographer. I am just barely beyond the point and shoot stage and I want to progress!

I want to write and have published a book! I have one I have written, and so far, it has only been accepted by subsidy publishers, but I keep plugging along. And I may actually go the subsidy route just to have it out there for in the world.

And at some point I want to be in business SOLELY by myself again. I want to own and run a guidng outfit. Rafting/hiking in the summer/fall and heli/cat ski with a guest lodge in the winter.

What are yours folks?

Eric

Wow, that's a great list. I haven't thought about this for a while, but here's what I came up with:

1) Learn how to play all of the Chopin Nocturnes (already have one down -- woo-hoo!) ; be able to play as many works by Chopin & Debussy as humanly possible ; maybe join a band/music group so I can have regular gigs and earn money on the side doing something I love

2) Buy a grand piano

3) Get my Masters and find a career that is fulfilling to me -- now working towards a degree in Health Promotion Managment, but thinking about Music Therapy as well

4) Find a caring, gentle, sensitive man who I can share everything with and have 2-5 kids...depending on when I meet this mystery man ...

5) Live abroad for a year ... been wanting to do this for soooo long. Even asked my ex to join the peace corps with me at one point ; feeling kinda old for this, but thought i'd add this to the list

6) Learn how to rock out on my acoustic guitar

7) Own a home close to a big city (but not too close)

Travel the world...Egypt, Greece, Lebanon, Australia, Brazil, Portugal are all still on the list

9) Become more of a spirtual person -- continue to build a strong relationship with God

10) Learn to forgive myself for my past mistakes...and finally let go.

------

That's all I can think of. Felt good to write these things down! Thanks for the idea

Wow, Eric...

those are some great goals and certainly sounds like you are paving out the ideal life...anyone should adore such a laid back lifestyle...not to say it wouldn't take hard work and determination but the means justify the goal!

Very nice....and your very good for an amatuer photographer! You are well on your way....

For me:

I'd like to be comfortable as well so that i may travel where ever i'd like as well...not to be too spoiled but enough so that i can really enjoy some small luxuries, like vacationing in the French Riviera, going to Tibet...Tahiti...laying in my hamock on some far off island paradise w/ a frosty beverage...

I'd def like to do something where i have control of my time...working for the "Man" and listening to their rules sux...i'd like to make my own schedule and work from an in-home office...i already work hard, i could do it more for myself instead of someone else...heck, i made my company 9 million dollars last year, you'd think i could atlease make 1 mill of that??? No but you better believe the owner has his own private jet he flies around the world in, HIMSELF!!

I'd love to have the funds to give to several charitable causes dear to my heart

I'd like to have another jeep wrangler just for "fun"...my toy...

Id def like to travel more(wait did i say that already...lol, i guess i'm pretty serious about this one)...i guess ultimate goal would be just more freedom...

I too love my home, but i'd like to have a home w/ a mountain or ocean view w/ french doors off my office that looks off to this...it would be more creatively condusive to my work, i think!

Thx for sharing...this was nice.

VERY nice! I really like piano music. I enjoy a lot of classical piano, and while maybe not the most exciting piece on the planet, I love the Clair de Lune. It is a VERY relaxing and meditative piece. Always reminds me of autumn.

And I really love (have developed a love for) Jazz Piano. The last two years I have grown my collection and one of my absolute favorite pieces is Bill Evans "Peace Piece" (which of course is just a derivative of Miles Davis Flamenco Sketches) VERY blissful!

Own a ranch in Nebraska. Get a 4-door chevorlet huge lifted longbed truck and put the third national confederate flag (my avatar). Go wild turkey hunting. Join a private militia.

Also go and be a biologist in African Savannah for a while.

My house would have a huge confederate flag also. Stick it to the man. Sure would be a nice and peaceful life. Go hiking a bunch. Buy a few ostriches and have a small herd; also own a few cows, just for the heck of it. Plus horses.

YOU ask the hard questions! lol@!

Well, of course these "life goals" are a work in progress and gradually changes with life experiences.

It begins with having lots of love, happiness and ongoing stimulation. I'd also like to travel to sooo many places but doesn't need to happen in one year or anything. On that note, I want to write a few Pulitzer Prize winning books, start my own business, have success with my business, find the idealistic partner in real life, have a family, etc. Also, have lots of downhill & water skiing. (Okay, the books don’t need to be necessarily Pulitzer quality.) Oh yeah, maybe get back into oil painting just to leave a few behind.

Build the log home I have plans for on the ridge here, in 40 acres of pine and mountains

Fulfill my dreams of processing my Cashmere fiber, I once was Premier Exhibitor at the National Western Stock Show in Denver and through neglecting my dreams, I have allowed my breeding stock to dwindle. This is a very physical endeavor, the raising, feeding, shearing. I worry about the ability to sustain my strength and I become anxious to move forward. Last year I learned to spin the fiber.

What does real good Cashmere fiber feel like? When a goat is sheared, and you place your hand down in that lofty fiber, quality Cashmere immediately radiates the warmth of your hands back onto you. Poor quality or other fibers, even angora and alpaca, will leave you hands with a cool feeling, almost cold. I have approx. 200 lbs or more of raw Cashmere in storage, want a sweater? Some assembly required.

Find time to visit my daughter and granddaughter. I miss them so badly.

Feel the peace that was within me 10 years ago.

Find a way to be on horseback almost everyday. See above, this is how.

Wake up happy again, it was a way of life back then, trying to find it again but the path to that has been slippery. I won't quit but I will scream and rail in frustration all too often.

My greatest dream? To be ME again and not carry the name of a very unkind person attached to mine, give more to those who need, and learn to dance!!!!

Yeah, I love Clare de Lune...it's beautiful. That's one I know by heart.

Peace Piece...I actually heard that a few months ago when I was watching a movie (it was part of the soundtrack) -- I looked it up and just love it as well...

A Satie piece was on that same soundtrack...Trois Gymnopedies...nice mellow music.

I'm going to school to become a teacher, so one day I hope to be one of those teachers that everyone talks about - the kind where you remember them for years. If someone asks one of my students ten years after I have them who their favorite teacher was I want it to be me. I want to be the English teacher that is helpful but fun, approchable and interesting and I just want to love everyday of my teaching career.

I will always be writing. Right now I carry around a little notebook just in case I think of something interesting or someone says something that I want to remember. I never want to miss something because I forget about it, I always want to be the observer and write things down.

Visit Ireland. I'm not really sure why, but I suppose it's in my blood. I've always felt this intense attraction to it, so I feel like it's a place I need to experience at least once.

Always be as positive and compassionate as I am now. I mean my name on here isn't Desiderata for nothing, I think that poem just really speaks to me and how I hope to be. There will always be hurt, pain, suffering, etc. but if I can stay positive and know things will get better without being delusional, then I will be fine.

I just never want to lose sight of myself and who I truly am. I want to constantly create this positive force of energy that attracts people and helps me to make good decisions. I want to have experiences that I can learn from that help me to move forward past this hurtful experience and onto something better.

Oh and learn to play the piano so that my best friend, Nick, and I can play "Black River" by Keiko Matsui and Paul Taylor, haha. That one might take awhile.
