wisdom teeth....jaw pain?

My jaw really hurts on my left side. The pain is close to my ear, in from of it where the joint for your jaw is.

It hurts the most if I bite down on my left side or move the bottom jaw to the left at all. Or even if I open my mouth very far.

My wisdom tooth on the bottom left is already grown in, just not all the way. I mean it's past the gums, but still not at the level of my other teeth. The top right one has started as well as I can feel the bump.

Is it possible the pain in my jaw is related to the wisdom teeth growing in?

If there's a problem with them growing in, like being impacted, I'd know it before it broke the gums right? Before my dentist said the bottoms where impacted and the tops didn't have enough room to grow in.

BUT the bottom left is already past the gums, just needs to keep moving up with no problems I can tell.

I don't have the money at all for a dentist right now. Just want experiences from others.

Hi there, GoneAgain.

I have had the most problems of probably anyone because of my wisdom teeth. You don't want to hear the details, and it would take me all night long to tell you.

All I can say is I really hope you find a way to get the dental work done because you will end up in the emergency room eventually with an abscess if you don't. And yes, I do think it's the tooth causing the pain. But of course I don't know.

I'm so sorry.

Hm, so even if the tooth has already grown in past the gums with no problems, how can it still be impacted?

And I'll try my hardest to find a way to get this done, but I'm not in a good position at the moment anyways. This is one of my least worries at the moment unfortunately

Well, the dentist told you they were impacted, right?

That means they are.

Mine would break through the skin, then the swelling would start.

Have you looked with a mirror to see if the tissue is swelling around the part of the tooth that has come through? Mine used to come out, then be covered with swollen gum tissue, over and over.

The result in the end was that at age 35 I had to have the most godawful gum surgery you've ever heard of. Had to stay on pain medication for two months.

No, the gums for the one that's already through is fine. Doesn't look swollen or feel swollen at all.

But Yes, the dentist said they where impacted, but they wheren't a very good dentists anyways. I wonder if they just said that to get more money from the surgery?

That doesn't sound fun at all. I'm sorry you had to go through that!!

Thanks!!

Once I went to the ER on a Friday night with pain so bad from an infection. They gave me antibiotics, and the following Monday they pulled the tooth. It was just one thing after another for many years.

I took one of my sons to a dentist years ago when his wisdom teeth started coming in. They pulled all four at one time.

The other one hasn't had any need yet, but you'd better believe when they say the word, those things will come right out.

I'm sure your dentist wasn't telling you something wrong. I'll bet anything if you get a second opinion, they will tell you the same story. This is VERY common.

Like I said, I'll try my hardest to get to a dentist as soon as possible. But I'm not in a good position to do anything extra right now.

Till I can get to a dentist I guess pain killers is all I can do.

hey, the others above me are probably right, but have you considered that it could be TMJ?

I seemed to have developed this a little after having braces for a while when i was younger, but even after my braces came off it was still there. It's usually not noticeable but sometimes [when i've slept with my cheek on the pillow, or something similar] it hurts really bad and it gets hard to open my mouth, sort of like when you get a stiff neck after sleeping on it weird.

After a while it starts to go away a little. does this sound similar? i'm not sure why it happens, i think something to do with teeth grinding?

Its possible to stress the temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ), even from opening your mouth too wide too quickly. My TMJ makes a popping sound sometimes when I eat, doctor said its ok but not to seperate my jaws so much when I chew. Best advise, see a doctor, explain the situation, they'll do some investigating and be able to let you know whats causing to pain.

Always proud of you. Vee.
