Can anyone tell me their story of how Alzheimer's or Dementia affected your parents?

Don't really want to say much, but I believe my father is in the early stages of Alzheimer's or Dementia. He has become very violent and forgetful. My family doctor asked him the protocol questions to find out if he has any symptoms. Unfortunately he did and prescribed him some medication to see if my dad would get better. For the first week it seemed he was on the road to recovery. Now he has a few bad episodes and now it has my mother and me worried.

I hate to put him in an a home but I have to work and my mother cannot take care of him 24/7. I'm pretty stressed out right now and I was wondering if anyone has any stories about their parents developing Alzheimer's or Dementia? Would be interested to hear about your story. Thanks.

My mother has vascular dementia and is living in an assisted living facility.
It has not been easy but this is what was best for not only her health but her safety. If you decide to care for your father in the home you will need 24/7 assistance. You did not state what he is currently doing but safety is a big concern with alzheimer care. Get in touch with support groups and the Alzheimers Assoc. for more info. This will not be an easy decision and the years to come won't be either. You need support. No matter what type of relationship you have with a parent watching the process of this disease is not easy. Educate yourself. Take care

ooops.... you DID say what he is doing. My mother was hospitalized for several weeks during her combative stage. Has your father had a brain scan?
What is his age and health asside from the negative behaviors? I have been living with my mother's care for several years now. If you have anymore concerns just ask.
