NT Test

Hi,

I just received my results for my UltraSound NT test... I unfortunetly don't understand anything that is written on it.
I am currently at 13 weeks of pregnancy.

1.8mm of nuchal translucency
81mm crown-rump length
26mm biparietal diameter

Could someone shed some light on what this means? I figured crown-rump was the total length of the baby i think?

The nuchal transluceny is the fluid behind the neck of the fetus
Biparietal diameter is the measurement of the head of the fetus

Sorry to suggest the obvious, but...you are planning on asking your healthcare provider what this stuff means, aren't you?

And I can't believe you're already 13 weeks, Mousty! Seems just yesterday you learned you were pregnant. Wow, one more week and you'll be in your second trimester...

Thanks for all the wishes and comment. My doctor had told me that 13 weeks was 2nd trimester, but nonetheless I'm very happy about it =)
I went off and bought some nice clothes to make me feel better about gaining weight so I'm all happy now that stuff actually fits and doesn't make me feel huge.

I am obviously planning on asking someone that has medical background, but I don't get to see my doctor for another month =| Normally I'd try to talk to them on the phone but this center is just incapable of answering phones... took me 3 days last time to reach the nurse at over 10 calls a day. Imagine the doctor =|

I guess I'm just a bit paranoid because I have all these measurement in front of me, which don't tell me much. According to what I read online though my baby falls a bit below the average for the neck measurement, which says the smaller the better... so I hope I read correctly LOL!

Hi Mousty. My guess is that if something was wrong they would have mentioned it to you. Are they combining the results of that test with an AFP bloodtest to asses risk of disabilities?

I would find this totally unacceptable. Are you sure you want to stick with this doctor? When you're pregnant it's especially important to have a doctor that can answer your questions. It might be wise to switch to someone else.

I was thinking the same thing. If your doctor's office isn't prompt and attentive to your needs and questions, then you should look for another. I can't imagine any other time in my life where I have had more questions and concerns than my pregnancy. A responsive and genuinely caring health provider is a MUST. In fact, I wasn't happy with the first practice I went to and ended up switching.

Yes there was a blood test shortly after and I need to go in for another blood test near August 8th. They are probably waiting until then to give me any kind of result.
I'm assuming they probably did not mention anything because everything was probably normal. It's made for genetic testing for older couples. I'm 22 and my partner is 25, therefore we don't fit in the 35+ category. I like to be cautious so I did it anyways.

The doctor itself is good but it's the center that takes care of the calls that is a PITA. Public health care system I guess go go go! She won't be the person that will be following me after the test results. She's going to hand me over to a team in the building that will do the monitoring and delivery. I don't think there is much need to switch over for those few weeks because of their secretaries. (Thank god the other people don't have the same common secretaries)
