Is it possible to prolong/temporarily stop your period?

Basically this is the worst time I could ever get my period. Tomorrow I'm going away to the south of France and I will be doing loads of swimming and water sports like windsurfing and water skiing etc. I am really bad at using tampons I've gone through like two packets just trying to use them properly and it hasn't worked :S. I am gonna try use one but also..i generally don't feel that great on my period and I have a tendency to bloat when I have it (not a good look when wearing a bikini or wet suit!!!). So I was wondering is it possible to prolong my period or temporarily stop it for a while? I would stop eating but that really wouldn't go down well!

i think if every woman could find a way too stop their period and put it on hold there would be great rallys in the middle of the nations capitol in which women would praise joyfully at this new accomplishment

it would go down in hstory as the happiest day in womens history

Are you on the pill? If you skip the placebo pills and just start a new pack you could skip your period.

You can postpone your period IF you're taking birth control pills. You just skip the "blanks" and go right into your new pack. There are also BC pills you can take that reduce your periods to a few times a year rather than once a month.

If you're not on the pill, sorry but I don't believe there's anyway to stop it.

i'll ask her but my mum is a very "homeopathic" and into being very healthy, she's against me using most medications unless i really need them. Also I heard a side effect of the pill is that you can gain a little bit of weight? I really dont want that and my mum would be like hell no!

I'd try going on the pill, but your doctor could give you something (don't remember what it's called) to make you miss your period for one cycle, however, the next time you're on, it'll be very heavy and possibly very bad cramps more than usual.

well the annoying thing is i really don't have time to go to the doctors. I did however, i think just for the first time out of desperation manage to insert a tampon correctly. I cant really feel it and everything is comfortable. That means i've done it correctly right?

tampons I believe are the answer.

Then you can swim, ride horses, climb mountains and talk to your mother intimately about your freshness. At least thats what the commercials tell me.
