Counsellors
How much do they help?
Is it more of an american thing? How many uk people have actively seeked out a counsellor? Why? What did they do for you? |

I dont think they really help. They just make you the problem opposed to heling out the problem. I've tried to get help from them countless times in school and thats what they have done to me. They have made my poor grades a reflection of myself, and the only one to blame is the one I see when I look in the mirrior. I dont know how good the ones you pay for are but I've had a bad experience so I dont recommend them, I recommend some friends.

But look in the end if you want to go the distance and get a counsellor by all means go ahead but I personally fell this way about them.

I don't think I'll bother. All I've heard is unsuccess stories.
Thanks for your response. |

My experience
I went to conselling when I was going through difficult moments, that only made things much worse for me. I regret having spent my time and money to end up with more problems.
But that was my experience... I have also met people who work as counsellors for a living and sometimes I've got the feeling for what they say, that they get some kind of relief from the clients, to deal with their own issues (which made me doubt even more of them) I believe there must be some really good ones, and that it is more to do with the personality of the person and the connexion with the client. I was thinking that personal coaching could be better, but again I don't know how to find a good one... After my very negative experience in counselling, that ended up worst than the original problem, I tried to make something out of it, looking inside me for my strength, my instinct, and rely on myself and that makes me feel better. Another thing I do now is to ask for advise to people who have very high emotional intelligence, who I can trust, who are happy. (that's very good, but not always available) |

I believe that if you have a problem that wont go away then get some help with it. I saw a psychologist which really helped me overcome my fears and still continue seeing him. You've got to find the right person and believe that you will. I used some techniques involving breathing and the money was all worth it. You could even try some internet counselling for a first go.

That sounds like good advice. Maybe they weren't necessarily saying the you were the problem, but rather that you were the only one who held the power to fix those problems?

No no man. They were saying I am the problem. My low grade in math was due to one reason only. My math teacher. She would not teach proper and when I brought it up to counsellors they made as if she was teaching proper and I was learning wrong. Same thing last year in english, the teacher said after the mid term exam that he know who will and who will not fail the course. Guess what I failed the mid term and the course. And the counsellor just said ohh thats just his opinion. What was clearly demonstrated by the teacher was that he had already made up his mind.
