Positives: the degree of volunteerism I see as well as small kindnesses and the sense of community even in the huge crowded city I live in. The focus on diversity programs at certain companies.

There are some amazing charities, human rights and conservation pressure groups in today's society: Society of Friends, OxFam, Save the Children, Medecins sans Frontieres, WWF, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Liberty, Amnesty International--people who work for these organizations give me faith in humanity. Since 'the price of peace is eternal vigilance' we will ALWAYS need non governmental organizations like these to keep a check on the people we elect into positions of power and who then get in the pockets of Big Business and what used to be called the military-industrial complex.

Personally, I often thank my lucky stars that I grew up in a Western society where my human rights as a woman are enshrined in law, and that I have a right to equal education, working conditions, and pay (even if there is still an invisible 'glass ceiling' in some of these areas). In Western Europe/ the USA, women enjoy freedoms not shared by many in other parts of the world.

I am glad I live in a decent democracy with access to education, work and healthcare. I never take any of these benefits for granted.

There are plenty of negatives in society now-a-days, and regrettably i've experienced some.

Positives, something that really makes me feel warm when i see it, are as follows.

People who are genuinely kind, who do not carry out a good deed to feed their ego, or for recognition, but because they themselves are good people, know that, and don't feel the need to get other people to tell them that.

Dads who spend time with their children. Now-a-days, there are a lot of "broken homes" Some have no strong father figures, some have abusive ones, and some have work-aholic ones. But what i love to see, is when dads take their children out to the park, or play sports with them and have fun with them genuinely and willingly, not caring about money that he could be making, and just enjoying the time he has with his kids.

well, truthfully, it IS refreshing to know that there are still a few people out there that do what they love instead of what's expected of them, and there are still a handful of people with their heads screwed on straight... and as Kurt Vonnegut said "if you have died horribly on television, you have not died in vain; you have entertained us."
