A little shocked!

I had a late night tonight as I was on the phone to my husband for an hour (he is abroad). I found my grandfather (who I am his carer) sitting in the chair with no pants on. I asked him what was wrong and he said he'd wet his pants and he couldn't get back into bed.

I was really shocked this has never happened before! I put some clean pants on him and put him back to bed. I'm just so upset that he has deteriated so much in the last year. Being pregnant I can't lift him and it made it hard to move him. Sometimes he puts too much weight on me.

I just hope he's alright I am really shocked and am having one of those days! I just needed to vent.

Do you have other family in the area that could help you if need be?

No. My grandmother looks after him most of the time but I take care of him while she's at work. I make sure he's ok. I didn't know he would be downstairs but sometimes he is.

Yeah, its pretty sad and inevitable. I think the best thing you can do is give him a hug and tell him ya love him everyonce in a while. Im sure he appreciates your just being there for him. I bet he'll be even happier when your baby comes. How old are the both of them?

You need to get your Grandmother to make enquiries about having a carer pop in a couple of times a day. I had to do that for my Great Aunt when she started to remove her pants because she'd wet herself.

I don't know how old your Grandmother is but her life and yours is going to become more hectic as the time goes on. We all know he can't help it if he loses control of his bladder, but you can help him keep some dignity by not having to wash his clothes and wherever he's been at the time. Ask for some incontinence pads. I also suggest that your Grandmother gets him checked out by the doctor. It's possible your Grandfather has a urine infection. When this happened to my Great Aunt she didn't know people, she didn't know why she didn't have any pants on, I'd ask where they were and she didn't know. She became unsteady on her feet and fell down a few times and hurt herself. She would get antibiotics and be ok for a few weeks and then she would get another infection and it would start all over again.

You will have enough to keep you busy when the baby arrives. When is it due?
