Weight Loss

Hey everyone,

So growing up, I was always chubby and I was constantly teased by almost everyone. I've always been tall ever since I was born, and I've always been fairly big boned. When I was about 15 years old, I decided to make a positive change in my life and I lost around 25 pounds. I weighed around 130 and I'm 5'6. However, since then...now five years later (I'm 20 now) I've gained about 20 pounds back. I definately wouldn't call myself fat at all, or even chubby...I'm about average...but I would like to lose a good 10-15 pounds. I'm very insecure and I just want to feel good about myself and my body. I've been trying so hard not to eat unhealthy things and I've been running 2 miles every day, but I'm just not losing the weight as fast as I would like. So far I feel like I'm just turning fat into muscle, my clothes fit better but my weight isn't going down! Does anyone have any tips for me?

Don't worry about your weight. The clothes fit better that's what matters, not the numbers on the scale. I don't even own a scale because it'd stress me out wayy too much.

hey, I think it is an excellent sign that you are losing weight slowly. it's more likely to stay off permanently that way! so congrats! and like brooke said, it's more imporant how your clothes fit. muscle is heavier than fat.

People put too much emphasis on how much they weigh on a scale. Isn't it more important the way you look? Personally I wouldn't care if I wieghed 20,000 lbs, just as long as I don't look like I do.

If you want to lose weight, you have to burn more callories than you eat and don't eat after 8pm, no carbohydrates after 4pm, and only drink water. Also, do a different excersize because running sucks. It works, but it sucks. Try swimming, bicycling or any variation of excersizes that move your whole body.

And remember: muscle weighs more than fat!

the key is to use up more calories than you take in. split your meals into 6 small meals, instead of the traditional 3, because that keeps the metabolism moving. avoid rice/pasta and anything high in calories and carbs. Then hit up the gym. From my exprience diet is 70% and the gym is 30%. you decide where you want to dedicate your self more.

It is entirely possible that you are simply turning fat into muscle in which case, it would not be surprising even if you gained some weight. I believe muscle weighs almost 5 times what fat weighs. So as you build muscle your weight will increase, but your pants will fit better :P

100% true. not sure if the ratio is 1:5 though fat lbs to muscle lbs. but muscle is much more dense.
