depressing easter weekend

first holiday by myself. probably wouldn't be that bad if it wasn't for the fact that my entire family is getting together and all my (few) friends are going out of town, and i am stuck here in the city (work)...thinking 'these are the days when couples really shine...it can totally suck and then good friday, when no one works - that is a good couple day' but me...no...i'm alone, trying to study for finals. Sure me and my recent (10 days) ex probably weren't meant for each other, but its time like this where i really wish we could have worked it out and really regret all the fights i started. i was unhappy then, but i am more unhappy now.

i wish he missed me, but realistically, he is out with his friends getting drunk and telling other girls how he's just gotten out of a serious relationship, but is casually dating (grrr)

I feel lke I'm brand new to the city all over again. It sucks. Anyone else alone on the long weekend?? Or just me...

Hey emma-

I'm sorry to hear this. Even when you know with some surety that you and your ex weren't right, it still hurts.

I think you should you should treat yourself like a queen this weekend. Treat yourself to a day at the spa, a 2 hour massage (), pedicure, hot bath, glass of wine, and your favorite movie. Do something you truly enjoy doing but just don't do enough of.

If you can work this around your work schedule this weekend, do so. Otherwise, you could save this for next weekend or during your next day or two off, give yourself something exciting to look forward to which is very helpful in situations like this, and make your own holiday.

Bring the power of your life back where it belongs, namely in your hands, and understand that heaven or hell are a state of mind, you work towards your own happyness, by earning what you receive in life, life is what you make of it.

Each choice that you make in life represents a heaven or a hell, so in other words, heaven and hell is a state of mind, that you reach by your choices.

If you love and help other people(which is the meaning of life) you will bring happyness into your own life, so stop giving another spin to that wheel of hatred, otherwhise the fights will never stop, you cannot fight evil with evil you can only fight evil with love.

Hi Emma, the holidays are tough alone. I'm on my own this year too, and I know the ex is at the big family Easter dinner he always told me about that he said he was looking forward to bringing me to this year...but I digress.

FriscoDJ has it right, get a movie or book you've been wanting to see, treat yourself to something special to eat and some wine, and take some time for yourself.

Another idea, it might be a bit lame, I'm helping at the local soup kitchen with their Easter dinner on Sunday...I did it one Christmas after a break up and do it most holidays now whether I'm single or not. Not only does it keep you busy and make you feel good for doing something in the community, it's really a good dose of reality to burst your own bubble of sadness. These people are alone too, but living in shelters or on the street or can't afford to feed their kids.

It's not that your sadness isn't real or important, but this kind of thing makes you start to count your blessings and it helps you feel better.

I'm alone and working on this long weekend. But I'm not too bothered by it, I guess I think of it as double time and a half and the money I make from working the holiday weekend will go back to me and I can buy whatever I want. I used to think about what to buy the ex when I had extra money, now it's all about me and what I can do for me.
What you're feeling is normal since the breakup was recent, but take heart things do get better. Take care of yourself and try to post often.
