Yeah you can mix.

Creatine = more energy for your muscles, protein = new muscle. So its best to take creatine before you work out and protein after.

I take a Whey/Glutamine/Creatine mixed with milk before I go to bed then have a protein bar right after the work out. You can take a quick hit an hour or so before your workout too.

i think your better off using creatine an hour before your workout and just have your post workout protein shake after; ive never tried it mixed though... if you do.. down that with a lot of water lol

This is what I have read is the recommended way to take it. However, if your creatine is too old, I read that it can actually harm you. So, if it is too old, just get some fresher creatine.

Creatine needs to be taken before workout. Its a chemical your body produces naturally. Creatine does not create more energy for the muscle, it accelerates the mending period after muscles are broke down through activity, which accelerates muscle gain. It is also (in some cases) packed with insulin which makes your body retain water and appear bigger.

I was a VERY competitive baseball/football player in high school and in college. I used creating for a number of years until I got injured. I do not advocate creatine, as it accelerates your muscle growth and does not give tendons and ligaments time to strengthen first, which is imperative. I could have avoided injury by hard work in the gym, and not seeking the easy way to get what I wanted.

I am not trying to bash on anyone for taking it, I am just putting in my .02 because creatine was part of the reason I had to stop playing baseball in college, and I had opportunities.

But yeah. I suggest taking it before the workout, that way your body has time to process it and it can start working as soon as your body needs it.

I'm sure that there is nothing wrong with mixing creatine and protein as far as health goes, but as far as effectiveness goes, you are cutting your results short by combining the two. Creatine needs a delivery system in order to work, and that delivery system can best be found in simple and unrefined sugars and carbohydrates (most specifically, those found in 100% apple or grape juice). Your body needs a reason to absorb that creatine and if its mixed with juice, it will take the creatine in while it's taking in those sugars. If you really want to get great results, completely mix your protein in water or milk (and drink it after your workout, when your body is demanding it) and mix your creatine in about 12 oz. of fruit juice, regardless of whether you drink it before or after you work out (I've experienced great results both ways). Good luck!

with creatine you needs lot of water to fill your muscle fibers up. if you drink protein powder, you might not feel as thirsty and the creatine is useless. as another poster said i would take creatine at convenient times, like before work/school, take a gallon with you and just slam it as much as you can. then protein up at least 3 times a day.

i used to use creatine. i always felt so sick. i stopped. but i still used protein. at least 2 shakes a day every other week.
