oily stools

I know this is kind of a gross subject but for the past two days when having bowel movements either oil is all that comes out of my stools are oily. By oily I mean the toilet water looks like a 7th grade science experiment when the oil floats and stays on the top of the water. I havent found much information online relating to this except when talking about panceaitis but i have no pain or problems other than this. I also ate sushi the night before but it has been over 48 hour since then now. Any reply would help. Thank you

There are several conditions that can cause oily/ greasy stools. You may have to seek medical advice from your doctor is it continues.

I suggest you go and see the doctor straight away.

I don't want to frighten you but my Mother had a problem and waited and waited before she got it looked at and it turned out she had cancer of the pancreas and it was too late to have an operation. She then got secondary cancer of the lungs and died.

The doctors told us if she'd gone sooner they could've saved her.

Frequently is does have to do with pancreatitis because your pancreas secretes enzymes that help digest fat. When it is inflammed or not working properly, you tend to have oily/fatty stools, called steatorrhea. Is is most often seen with severe abdominal pain though.... so not sure about that since you say that you are not in pain.

You should contact your doctor ASAP and get an appt. They may ask you to bring in a stool sample as well.

I have no clue about the sushi. I wouldn't want to think it is something serious at your age. BUT,,,,, young people can get serious conditions also.

Have you ever had any digestive/intestinal disturbance of this nature before ?

Please go see a doctor. What ever we say on this forum is purely spectulation. Only your doctor with a stool sample will be able to tell you exactly what is going on.

And I do not believe that sushi will give you oily stools. Worms, maybe but not oily stools.

Could be malabsorption--which is seen in inflammatory bowel disease or celiac disease.

I would check with your doctor.

I sincerely doubt it- I have never heard of this happening with sushi, myself included and I eat it 2X per week.

As Hosswhispra said, it could be a condition causing malabsorption.

IBD is usally seen as profuse diarrhea and often times it is bloody. It is almost always accompanied by abdominal pain. At times there can be oily or greasy stools, but this is not as commmon. It is actually quite common in teens and people in their young 20s. IBD actually represents two types of BD, one being Ulcerative Colitis, the other being Crohn's Disease. UC mostly only affects the lining of the bowel whereas Crohn's can go deeper, affecting many layers of the digestive tract.

Are you taking any medications? Vitamins? "natural" supplements?

Other than the sushi, any new foods?
