If you are pregnant, you will not get a period EXCEPT if it is an ectopic pregnancy, you may have a period.

Ectopic pregnancy can be caused by missing the bc pill even once.

My gf had this once, maybe twice and has a messed up ovary now

If you are pregnant and are/were bleeding talk to your OBGYN and set up an appointment as you might be experiencing a miscarriage or having a threatened miscarriage, ethier way you need to be checked out.

Well, it is "possible" because if the hormones from pregnancy have not built up enough yet, the sudden withdraw of hormones (in your placebo week) can still cause some bleeding. While if it's heavy bleeding, you will very possibly lose the pregnancy, some light spotting/bleeding does happen in some pregnancies even without being on the pill. As was mentioned, you may also sometimes get a "period" in ectopic pregnancies, and again this relates to the hormone levels.

However, if you are taking the pill properly, the chances of pregnancy are overall quite slim as it does prevent you from ovulating, and the reason you have those periods is to reassure you that you aren't pregnant really, so I sure would not be running out for pregnancy tests every placebo week!

Do you have any reason to suspect pregnancy.

Hi mudpie,

Well, let's hope it is a real period.

You had no sex since may, you delayed the June period?

My gf had missed a pill, delayed a period, and the left ovary started to swell and hurt. Was an ectopic pregnancy.

Do not wait, find out because ectopic pregnancy can damage ovary or fallopian tube and lead to future complications also wrt fertility.

I suggest you go to a gynecologist in a few days after the bleeding reduced and in any case no later than a week.
