counselor is one that can help calm your nerves temporarily with the minor problems that plague you. If it is bouts of depression clinically speaking then a therapist could help you with that and other things so that they can get tothe root of the problem. You must be comfortable with this type of help because most people like my ex do not like to seek outside help for problems they feel they can fix on their own. Only because of pride

Do you have a regular physician that could refer you to one?
If you have some form of healthcare coverage it may cover this.
Have you tried through your school? I think a therapist is what you want, but discussing this with a professional would help determine where to go.

Good luck teacup. You're doing the right thing.

If you work for a company that has an EAP program you would call that and they would refer you. I think you get the 1st 5 or 10 sessions paid for by your company and then its a co-pay with your insurance. Also its about trying out different therapists. You want to be comfortable with them and they take an active role in your therapy. You know not just sitting there with a blank look on their face.

If you belong to a church, especially a protestant church, the minister can give you some counseling free of charge and can certainly recommend an outside therapist.

If you don't belong to a church, stop by one and make an appointment to talk to the minister. They are there to help people with their problems and I don't think it will matter if you are a regular. I don't know how religious you are but most ministers are going to be much more interested in helping address your real problems than trying to preach to you.

Teacup, I think that it is so awesome that you are trying to get some help. You seem like such a wonderful woman and I am glad you are taking the initiative. Soon you will realize how special you are and the clouds will open up to sunshine.
