Post Rating System? How to disable it.

Hey! Admins...or mods!

What's goin on, just thought I'd be the first to question...what's with the new post rating system and who made it and why'd they come up with it? Just curious...fill us all in. Thanks!

I am not sure what it's about either.. creepy!

I can't see it on mine... or is that because I'm not meant to see my rating?

More likely no one has rated you yet.

Yup. The "rate" button is now in the upper right hand corner right next to the "quote" button...

I think there needs to be a new FAQ about this feature. Question: is the rating we give someone else a one time thing that we think reflects their overall quality of advice on the site, or is it something we can do for each of their individual posts?

If it's for each of their individual posts, I think it can be implemented better. Instead of being something we have to click on that will take us to a seperate page, it should be a drop down bar so we can rate everyone's post in a thread much more quickly. Kind of like this site.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Next to the top post there you see the drop down bar....

Edit: I just tested it. It's rating a user's overall quality, not individual posts.

Hi everyone, it is just a test for now. While it might be a good thing in a long term there are many concerns about the rating system too.

some_guy282, it is built to work on both levels: rating on post and overall user level.

With the current setting once you rating a members post you can not rate any of their other posts. this is subject of change and was done so first to monitor community reaction and prevent abuse at the beginning stages.

The good thing I though about it in a long term is it provides a quick way to know who the advice is coming from especially helpful for those not familiar with many enotalone family members. A large layer of enotalone population is transitional, for new comers this kind of thing can be helpful.

On the other side some justly pointed out that it might discourage some from posting. There is work around for this and any other issue I believe.

Yea...I dont know about that if it's actually the member's "overall quality rating"....because there are many discouraging opinions on here between members, and there have been even more recently. That could kinda ruin a member's reputation on this site...or boost it...whatever, mods and admins choice tho I guess...I think it would be better if it just went by the 'single' post within a thread. Maybe that could be a poll you guys could have at the top for the next week or so....?

My thoughts exactly. For the many first time posters it provides them with a way to judge the person who's giving them the advice, as well as the advice itself. On the other hand, if someone gets a bad rating it will discourage them from posting as you have said. This has potential to lead to a group think mentality, and a homogenization of advice on the site. Someone agrees with someone else's advice, so they give it a good rating. And vice versa. Someone else gives a different opinion consistently, and they get a bad rating. They post less or stop posting all together. Eventually, everyone posting thinks alike and all the advice is essentially the same.

I'm not saying things will turn out that way, and whether or not things will play out that way only time will tell. It's certainly an interesting idea with its pros and cons that deserves to be tried out at least.
