Split End Treatments?
I am trying to grow my hair out but the biggest problem that I am facing is split ends. Right now it's right below my ears but I can't ever get it to grow healthily (if that's a word) past that length without getting split ends. I'm sure one of the issues is that I have to blowdry my hair every morning after I wash it because if I don't, the natural waves in my hair take over and it's absolutely ridiculous.
I have purchased some split end treatment stuff (i.e., Neutrogena Split End Treatment) and that has helped a bit but I was seeing if anyone has found either household remedies that work or store-bought items or what I could do to get my hair to grow longer, quicker and healthy. Thanks!

Well I heard the Britney Spears uses cator oil on her split ends. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

what type of brush are you using??? Metal prong ones are harsher on the hair. If you use a natural boars hair brush (slightly more expensive) but they save your hair alot!

I am using a brush with plastic bristles and little balls at the end (how about that for a description, lol!). Would I find one of those natural bristle brushes at a Sally Beauty Supply, you think?
I've also had people tell me that put leave-in conditioner would help but I've tried that and it only proved to my hair greasy.

I have pretty bad split ends at the back/bottom of my hair. If I take my fingers and go behind and under my ears and pull the hair out so I can see it every single hair is extremely damaged
My hairdresser said it was from being pulled into a ponytail. I always throw my hair in a low ponytail to sleep, or if I am having a frizzy hair day. They recommended a treatment which is like a leave in conditioner and a styling product in one. Its called Sebastian Potion Number 9. I bought it and I use it when I let my hair air dry and it makes my hair completely frizz free. They told me that if I used that product it would prevent my hair from splitting. I also put extra conditioner to that area of my hair. I realized that normally I would put conditioner on the top layer and work in from there., which probably didnt even get to that under area. If you come up with any better tips please let me know! Thanks |

You sound like me. I wanna grow it a little too (not much... maybe to 6 inches...), but last time I grew it, it was all wavy, and messed up, and I know my hair's not supposed to be wavy, cause when it's short-medium length, it's straight and smooth. But I never blow dried it. Does "constantly" trimming it help prevent that? And by constantly I mean maybe every 1 or 1.5 months...

Dead Eyes,
Yes, I believe that if you get your hair trimmed every six to eight weeks, it makes your hair healthier... during that time, that's when I notice split ends. But I might just try that Sebastian stuff... sounds like worth a shot. Do you think that putting extra conditioner after you get out of the shower on the ends might help? I'm not sure if it would... just might be like leave-ins and create greasy hair. BTW, thanks for everyone's inputs!!!

...the plastic ones with the little balls are okay....BUT if the little balls fall off the ends...thats probably the worst brush type at all...cause the ends aren't finished anymore...and they definatly create split ends!
You can get natural bristles most anywhere you get the other types....just read the label of what the bristles are made of, natural or synthetic. Natural bristles also distribute the oils in your hair evenly, which lessens the dryness in your ends. If you use a leave in conditoner....only put it on your ends...don't use at the roots, or else it will leave your hair pretty greasy...at least in my experience. |

where do you get the Sebastian stuff from? Oh, and now that we're on the subject of hair, I've got a question:
Well, the real reason I'm growing my hair is to make it stand up straight up like the dude from that band static X (that's why I don't want my hair to be wavy) but a little shorter. So, does anyone have any idea of what I could use to do that (right now that my hair's "pretty long", I use spiking glue, but I can only use it to spike it up, cause when I just try to make it stand up, it doesn't really work... and it takes a long time and it's a pain in the neck, cause I basically gotta work on each individual spike)? A couple of my friends say he probably uses bees wax... anyone know where I can get bees wax from? I tried CVS, but found only this bees was stick thingy, but I don't think it'll work... peace.

For beeswax, just stop by any drug store and you'll find it by the styling products. You could also go to a salon and grab some there, but i've found that the salon brands, you're really just paying for the label, cause it is what it is, and there's no need to pay 20 dollars more for the same product.
I would assume that would be the best thing to use for it at any rate. Don't over do it because it can be pretty hard to wash out if you put too much in....i'm talking days here.....days of grease. |
