RIP Lucky puppy

We got him when I was 13. My Mom wanted extra security when she became a single mom and she found an ad in the buy and sell about Lucky and we went to see him. Right away, it was love. He latched right on to my sister. Lucky is a cliche name, but it suited him because he was lucky to be alive. When he was a tiny puppy, he was thrown out into the snow and cold up in the Kootenay Mtns and a couple found him. When we adopted him from them, the woman had tears in her eyes and I promised that we'd take really good care of him for them. I don't really know why they couldn't keep him, but I knew that it was hard for her to let him go. He was a "unique" dog--- a german shepherd mystery cross with ears that he couldn't keep up on his own... when he was in a particularly dumb mood, his ears would stick out sideways, like antennae. When he was especially happy, one ear would stick straight out, and the other would flop. He was super cute

He was such a fun dog... he had so much love to give and he was an integral part of my teenage years. Sure, he was a pain in the ass sometimes, but he was mostly really awesome. When I saw him last at thanksgiving dinner, I took extra time to be with him because I had a feeling it would be the last time, and I was right. My Mom had him put down a week ago because he was just so old and couldn't climb the stairs or anything. The vet said that his muscles were pretty much completely gone and I know that he was also going quite deaf. I know he had a good long life, but I miss him. I hated being told about his death the way that I was and I'm just feeling sad right now. It's never easy to lose a pet, especially one that was part of the family for so long...and who meant so much.
