Question I need advice, please answer

This guy I know was giving away some of his books and I took a few. Anyway, one of the books that I now have has a bunch of messages from others and some of his thoughts in it. My question is, do you think he would want that book back or do guys care about that kind of stuff? If I did tell him that I have it, do you think he would be embarassed about it?
P.S. This is a guy I like

i would personally ask him about it. for example "Hey, *guy's name*, those books you gave me had a book with a bunch of notes and stuff in it, and was wondering if you would like it back?" or something along those lines, then you could spark up a conversation from there perhaps you will get to know each-other more

but then again, i have never had a girlfriend so im probably not the best person to answer this =P
