Exclamation sleep paralysis!!

My family has had this all their lives. I am the ONLY one who hasn't gotten it yet. if you don't know what it is it's when you're sleeping and all of a sudden you wake up but can't open your eyes, speak or move at all! you are paralyzed! it usually goes away in a minute or less. you also sometimes here strage noises when under. they say on google that it
s a sleep disorder but my dad swears it's demons anyone ever had this????

I have something very similar called hemi-plegic migraines where one of the symptoms is paralysis temporarily for a few minutes up to a few days on half of my body. Sleep paralysis is something that's related to this, and is often misdiagnosed because hemi-plegic migraines are rare. Have any of your family been tested for this?

heh i think thats what people thought sleep paralysis is long time ago ... its pretty common and ive had a lot of run ins with sleep paralysis.. im sure you will too... just enjoy it when it happens. i learned to control it after several incidents.. i sometimes fall asleep with someone nearby and you can control your breathing so i breathe hard and they know to wake me up.

this usually happens for naps and not when falling asleep at night.

I've had sleep paralysis happened to me ONCE. It happened during a time of change both physical and emotional. I was in the middle of moving out here and it was a time of change and upheaval (something I hate). I was also extremely exhausted from days of packing, staying up late to say goodbye to friends, etc. I was also in the middle of a 2 day drive out here.

I woke up in the middle of the night in my hotel room, unable to speak or even get up. I felt as though someone was sitting on me. I tried to say something but nothing came out. It felt as though it went on for eternity.

At the end, I said a few prayers and all of a sudden I was able to get up. Bizarre!!!

It's often genetic, so multiple family members can get it, maybe it's worth a check? Sadly, I have the non-genetic variety which is even rarer and impossible to deal with because there's no explanation for it.

Paralysis is really frightening no matter the cause - but I don't live in fear of it even if I know it'd eventually happen to me - I just wear medical ID on me and go about my daily life. My periods of paralysis sometimes happen during sleep, so I use to get really scared of going to sleep at first, but then I realised how silly it was to let something like that get the better of me.

It's not really a huge deal when put into context.

I used to have really strange dreams when I was younger, when I would wake up in my bed, but couldn't move or talk. I found out later that it wasn't a dream, that I was experiencing sleep paralysis.

It went away, but it was pretty scary for a while.
