How come some people are allowed to swear in their posts without getting a mod edit or the red asteriks, while other get those right away and get a profanity email?

I know from my personal experience, if I post a swear word, I get the red asteriks and a profanity email. I know I cannot speak for the others and say they are not getting that profanity email because they could very well be, but I've always wondered why some people can swear and not have it removed while other have it removed.

I think it depends on the swear word. When I first joined, I tried to get around the red asterisks by manipulating the spelling a little bit, but that only got me warnings
For example, ass isn't considered a swear word on here, but any of your 4 letter ones will get you the ****

No that's not how you express love! You express your love by calling her a dirty little ***** and slapping her in the face with your penis!

I'm sure they do. I know I appreciate it personally.

Possibly because we haven't seen the post. Also we don't always edit the posts. Action may have been taken such as a warning but you wouldn't see something like that. It's private between the member and the moderating team.

You can always report a post that has swearing in it so that we can take a look.

It feels good when I have replied to a thread and the OP, in particular, reps me with a comment about it being helpful.

I don't care about number of rep points, but knowing I've helped someone out is something that I do like and appreciate.

Can we "rep" a person that has posted on a thread that has been locked?

No. Once a thread has been locked you will be unable to use any of the links/features within that thread. That's just the way the forum software is built.

Wishful thinking but would images in signature ever be enabled...provided it's very small (like 50x50)

It used to be. But as the forum grew we simply ran out of resources on the computer equipment to handle that. People were putting animated images, etc in their sigs and the server just couldn't deal with it. Also it just made for an uglier page display with all sorts of weird things people were putting in there.

So I don't see that changing back to allow them in the future.
