  1. Hey Cynder... What's the tattoo of? I'm not into them myself, but I think it's really cool that you got one to commemorate your trip. Sounds like you're having a blast. The homesickness is normal. I notice it seems to happen when you eat alone, that's not uncommon at all. Whenever I was on business trips, I always ended up getting takeout and going back to my room, because I always felt like a lonely loser sitting there by myself (even though I don't think that way of others). Anyway, sounds like you've met some cool locals, which IMO is the BEST - you get to see things from their perspective, rather than the tourist companies. And it sounds like you're striking a really good balance between getting to know people and seeing some cool stuff. Hope the rest of your trip is equally amazing..Don't forget to offer your couch to the people you get to know if they want to come to the US...you can build a fantastic network for travel opportunities, just by being hospitable.
  2. Cynder, I really hope that this trip opens your eyes to the possibilities life has to offer. You don't need to run away from your life, but you certainly can run towards a better one. I really feel that the people you surround yourself with are holding you down, and holding you back. I wish you a safe, exciting, and ephiphanous (is that a word?) journey.
  3. Cynder A week isn't enough time to figure out how to stay there...plus, you can't just land in a country and decide to stay, unless you are prepared to live on the streets, and slide off the grid. The week will FLY by. However, you can come back with a better idea of what that country has to offer, and figure out if you want to emigrate, then look into it. You're probably not going to WANT to come back, I never do....;D
  4. Have a FANTASTIC adventure Cynder! I am so excited for you.
  5. Aren't there labour laws prohibiting your employer from making you work 7 days a week???? Hope you're getting overtime to save up for your trip.
  6. Establish a 'safety word' beforehand. If you hear that word, FREEZE. That way, you don't have to worry about whether or not she said; "Don't *gasp*stop" or "Don't!" *gasp* "STOP!" Make it something unusual and funny, so if things get too intense, and she uses the safety word, it will add some levity to the moment. and if you are going to pull hair, grab it close to the scalp, at the nape of the neck. ...I've heard these are good tips, anyway...;D
  7. I'm hoping the poetry lovers can help me here... I am looking for a poem or prose about long-distance friendships, preferably something that alludes to the friends as family... Can anyone recommend an author or a specific poem? Thanks in advance....
  8. Wow. just. Wow. I love this. I am printing out copies on nice paper, framing it and putting it in both my sons rooms. I was raised looking at copies of the Desiderata growing, up, and I knew a lot of it by heart before I even understood it. In fact I remember getting really frustrated that I couldn't understand it. But it's become a cornerstone of my character in a lot of ways, to remind me of who I intend to be. NO - No one can be and do all things, but to STRIVE to be the best you can be at all times, that's how you grow. Besides, a lot of this is about character, inner strength and holding true to yourself and your values. The more you do insist on doing it, the easier it is to do. What's more, in the end, you can look yourself in the mirror, and know you like who you are... LOVE IT. Thanks for sharing!
