  1. Oh gosh you are making me homesick. I loved nothing more than riding around the Smokies on a warm fall day with my sunroof open a number of years ago. I can't wait to go back!!
  2. image removed I've been practicing more macro photography of late--I think this is really where my niche is. I love being able to see the unseen.
  3. Thanks--this HDR image is actually three exposures merged together, one normal exposure, one overexposure, and one underexposure. I do the merger in post-processing with a program called Photomatix. All were taken with a standard digital SLR.
  4. Took this on a trip to Salt Lake City: image removed
  5. Six Stars of Winter image removed Taken with a 100 mm macro lens at f/2.8. Post processing done in Adobe Photoshop.
  6. Thanks! I discovered the joys of macro photography last year. I love with how that fixed focal length you can achieve photos like the one I posted here that are more abstract, or take a great portrait. I encourage you to give it a try! I'm jonesing for a macro lens of my own and trying to save up for Canon's IS macro but given the $$$ of that thing it may be a while before it joins my collection, lol!
  7. This is a nice thread. I'll add something: image removed Taken with a 100 mm f2.8 macro lens, at f3.2. I find macro photography and telephoto focal lengths most appealing personally. We also have a subforum where members can share their artistic (photographic and otherwise!) endeavors--you can see a lot of creative works from people there too! P.S sidehop--the puppy portrait is beautiful.
  8. Thank you everyone! This is the first time I've ever tried to do this. I'm pretty pleased with the results, and quite frankly surprised they came out pretty well.
  9. A raging blizzard outside my window yielded these shots. image removed image removed image removed image removed I actually used my 5-year-old point and shoot digital camera to take these. I have a special adaptor for it that allows me to screw in a magnifying lens, so in combination with the camera's 3 X optical zoom and the lens' 7 X magnification, I got a total of 10 X magnification, but still had to crop the photos pretty heavily. Snowflakes are small buggers after all! These are nearly 100 % crops I've posted here. So for any of you who are lusting after some snow, here you go !
  10. Thanks--HDR is addicting! Crush85--thank you as well. I posted that photo because it's cold where I am and a little summer would be most welcome.
  11. This one used to be my icon. I may bring it back. image removed
  12. Yeah, that whale is beautiful!! Great capture! I took this photo over two years ago but it's my favorite butterfly shot... image removed And here's something a little more abstract: image removed
  13. Love the swan with the sparkles coming off the water! Backlit photos can be so stunning.
  14. Thank you. I'm currently lusting after a 70-200 mm f/2.8L lens and a telephoto extender to go with it to give me some reach out to over 400 mm. The 70-200 either with f/2.8L or f/4L is one of the best lenses Canon has to offer imo. I think my next lens, whenever I can afford one, will be a telephoto since I'm finding that with my 28-135 I'm often shooting at the far end, at the very least 100 mm. Portraits sound fun--I need to invest in an external flash unit and get going on other aspects of photography, though I do love natural lighting.
