  1. The Way of the Superior Man: A Spiritual Guide to Mastering the Challenges of Women, Work, and Sexual Desire Was just loaned it by a close friend yesterday , starting to read through it. It's all starting to make sense.
  2. Good luck on your final today. I know you've been stressed out like crazy with all the homework you've had. Have a fun rest of the week.
  3. I'm feeling increasingly better, and I trust that you are, too. I know that there was nothing I could do to change the fact that I was not meant for you, but it's so hard to let go of the person who I gave so much of myself to. Thank you for your warmth in the cold and sunlight through the darkness of Fall and Winter. Thank you for your patience and understanding. You are a wonderful, irreplaceable young woman and I feel blessed to have gotten a taste of your life. I wish I could call you my baby, but you are not my baby anymore. I've got a mountain of things to conquer in these next two months before graduating, and know that you've got quite a bit to take care of as well, so I won't distract you. Perhaps in time we will meet again on the other end and hang and relax. It's impossible to see that now, but only time will tell.

  5. Perhaps it means not just standing on the train that moves, but keeping an eye out for a comfortable seat to sit on as it goes from place to place.
  6. I have yet to visit Africa, but they have an intriguing spiritual sense. Their culture is so unique and deep in primitive traditions. Music plays a central role in the spiritual life. There stories of Westerners attending authentic vodou ceremonies, just plain captivated by the energy- pulsating drum beats, shouting, singing, ridding yourself of what is posessing you, etc. As curious as some become of their ways, the people of Africa are still secretive about their practices. When you talk about rock and roll, blues, R&B, drum n' bass, and all these modern music forms of the West, you don't usually think about Africa and the Caribbean. It all came from there, much of which is spiritually derived. The African diaspora is complicated and beautiful.
  7. "Your life is shaped by your intentions." I don't remember his name, but the one who said it was a Buddhist teacher/Venerable that I listened to online a few months ago. The above statement caught my attention so much that I had to jot it down. There is certainly truth behind it.
  8. This is a pseudo-poem I worked up that is about the many years I spent as a child at the beach during the summers as part of a youth/young teen activities program. "Nostalgia" The taste of overly sweet, ice-cold beverages on eighty-degree days. The smell of hot dogs at the food stand run by a humble gentleman, the cheap white lawn chairs and tables vacant. I was his favorite customer. Back indoors playing billiards with the cool kids, blue dust on my fingers. Old chalk resting beside the new. An overly-used Playstation controller and a box of jewel cases. I sink into the couch to nap as the perfect summer breeze flows through the room, the front doors wide open, the laughter of children on the other side. Radio is on, the latest hit played for the second time today, followed by a call-in. The cute girl who I was too shy to talk to, her smile, falling hard. Her friend knew it, an uncomfortable shrug. I knew her since grade school. A hike up the steep cliff by the old traintracks, afraid to grab the swingrope, but watched the others. Fresh dirt all over my shorts on the descent down. The picking of fresh blackberries, some gone from the bucket before our return. The sun begins to set as my father walks in to drive me home for the night. We talk on the way back, squinting even though the window shade is pulled down, gazing out into the horizon. A company party on the beach grounds late into the evening, bonfire burning with fresh meat and homemade potato salad on the picnic table, the wood so very old. Not too interested in mingling. And as the years passed, my time there faded. But so vivid still are the times it was my second home.
  9. Wear clothes of a different style. See what colors work best with your skin tone. I personally look best in brown.
  10. In my opinion, having money will make you happier if you worked to get it, if you earn it; you didn't just win millions of dollars by buying a few lottery tickets. The people who take in lots of money instantly in the case of lottery winners become disillusioned and sometimes end up broke. Whereas someone who works at it understands that they can't just blow all of it on stuff. When you think about it, most people do not want to be filthy rich... just financially secure -- the middle class. I would rather be there than in the upper class. With having too much money comes the temptation to use it irresponsibly. If you have just enough to do what you want to do with it, while also knowing your limitations, you will be happy.
  11. No, it's not a huge deal. Just be aware of the fact that when you drink a can of Coke or Barqs Root Beer, that is 35+ grams of processed sugar you are putting into your body.
  12. Love is a strong attachment.
  13. The quote in my signature stuck with me after I heard the poem read through a music performance.
  14. Viewing work in its entirety through the slave lense is a cynical way to look at life. It is easy to think of generalizations out of pity, rather than to come to the conclusion that not everyone does the same job or climbs the same career ladder for the same reason. Some people find a way to transmute their passion in life into a job that pays well. There are those who have no career ahead of them with their passion, and so they work towards a job that brings home the bacon while the passion is left to be more of a hobby than a career. Some people don't have any real passions, and just do whatever they can to contribute to society, if that means being a janitor, working for a law firm, starting their own business, teaching, you name it. We do not live in a utopian society where everyone does a job that they feel a personal connection with. Sometimes people just chose a career that suits their personality. I am going to be diving into a career in music. I don't play music to make tons of money. Money is nice, and it is needed for the career to work, but that is not the point of it all. If I wanted to make a lot of money, I would take up another interest as a career. Not everyone has the same values that I do. Sure, it is going to be hard work, and I may end up barely making it financially, but it is worth it because I would do it if I had a regular job and played music for free. I don't plan to retire from music until I leave this planet. The point that has been made already by other posters is that generalizations are bad. Some people have a family to raise and thereforeeee depend on each others' income to raise the family well. People immigrate to this country with nothing because they are barely able to survive in their own country, while there are people are born in this country with everything.
  15. Make a sandwhich with some kind of meat, or stir fry some vegetables and lay it over a bed of white rice, prepare a salad with one of those salad mixes from the grocery store, buy some pita bread and fill it with whatever suits you, microwave some vegetables and pour a little bit of olive oil over them (and sprinkle a little seasoning over it for added flavor)... there are a wide variety of options.
