MY EXPERIENCES AND OPINIONS: I had headaches almost every day of my life from the time I was in my early twenties. The headaches started at exactly the same time that I had a series of dental cavities filled with mercury/silver amalgam fillings. The reason I remember it so well is that we owned an Arthur Murray Dance Studio and one of my students was a dentist. I never had the money prior to that to have any dental work done so I never had any dental work done. Since the Dentist was my student we bartered my dental work for dance lessons. It was after that that I have a vivid memory of a large bottle of Excedrin always sitting on the reception desk because that was the spot closest to the water cooler. I also started carrying Excedrin in my purse and never stopped taking it daily until 1991. That was a span of approximately 30 years. In April of 1991, I started taking the supplements from Dr. Huggins to extract mercury from the cells. Three months into the supplements the headaches ceased and I have never had another "mercury" headache since then!! Prior to this there had been days that I medicated with as many as 12 Excedrin to try to rid myself of a headache. I had three Excedrin EVERY morning with my breakfast, as I always woke up with a headache. In my search to cure my headaches over the course of those 30 years, I had three major surgical procedures. With each surgical procedure I was told by the medical doctor that performed it that the surgery was necessary and would probably cure my headaches. So with innocent faith in the medical profession and a need to be rid of all of the pain, I embarked on the following three surgeries. ( Three actually became five). The first was the removal of four wisdom teeth. The oral surgeon that performed the operation assured me that because all four teeth were impacted, this could be the cause of my headaches. So, I submitted to surgery. If you've ever had this type of surgery I do not need to tell you the pain and suffering and agony that are associated with it. Well, the teeth were gone but the headaches stayed! The second operation had to be performed twice because the surgeon blundered it the first time. This operation was a nose operation performed by an ear, nose and throat doctor. Prior to surgery, I had a beautiful nose; straight, perfectly proportioned and sculptured in appearance. I have numerous pictures as proof. Among others, I have some good head shots that were taken in my early twenties when I did some modeling. This physician told me that my headaches were being caused by a deviated septum. He said that one side of my nose was totally blocked and I was not receiving the proper oxygen through nose breathing. You see, when I was 12 years old I was swinging on a vine in the woods by our house and I fell off and landed flat on my face. Also, in my early twenties, I had another blow to my nose in a minor auto accident. Either blow could have caused the deviated septum. Neither of these accidents caused any disfigurement to the outside of my nose as photographs will attest to. So, when the physician told me I had a blocked nose, I could readily understand and accept how it happened and decided to go ahead with surgery in the hope that it would cure my headaches. If any of you have ever had nose surgery, I need not say more. My nose was stuffed with packing which was terribly uncomfortable, and the removal of the packing nearly made me faint. The interior of my nose was a success but, unfortunately for me, the physician had created a noticeable, even obvious, bump in the middle of my nose. My nose had to heal for a year before the second surgical procedure, necessary to remedy the problem, could take place. So, for one year I lived with an ugly nose. The operation was then repeated, but this time my physician was assisted by a plastic surgeon who created a new nose for me. I have to admit that I emerged better for all of this suffering. My new nose was adorable and I fell in love with it. It's shaped similar to a ski jump that turns up at the end. I've had it for over 20 years now and we have become accustomed to each other. But I still had my headaches! My third attempt to alleviate the headaches was with a maxillofacial surgeon and an orthodontist. I had an overbite that caused a T.M.J. syndrome. The diagnosis was that this condition could definitely be causing my headaches. The remedy was first to have braces applied to my teeth to move all of the teeth to a new position so that surgery could then be performed which would move my jaw forward and the alignment between the newly moved teeth on the upper and lower jaw would then be perfect. There was a lot of coordination between the orthodontist and the maxiofacial surgeon to accomplish this. So I embarked on a two year sojourn of braces and all of the adult phobias that are associated with them. For instance, the fear of eating in public and then being afraid to open your mouth to speak until you run to the bathroom and examine your braces in the mirror checking for food particles dangling from them! What fun! The final operation was not bad. It was the easiest of all of them. The only problem was that my mouth was wired shut for two weeks and that had its good and bad points. On the good side, I lost 13 pounds because I could only sip liquids through a straw. On the bad side there were some fears involved, such as possibly choking to death if I should happen to have to vomit; and not being able to talk. The last one my husband found very rewarding. The operation was a tremendous success according to the surgeons, and they were really wonderful, caring men. They gave it a ten on a scale of one to ten, with ten being perfect. I was delighted with the surgery and it did help my structural problems, but I still had headaches! The ironic twist to all of this was that once they moved my lower jaw forward to align with my upper jaw, it brought my chin to far forward and gave me the appearance of a very strong chin. I didn't care for this look, so several years later I went back into surgery to have my chin moved backwards. So, all in all, I had a total of five surgical procedures between the ages of 33 and 46. Three operations were to cure my headaches and two operations were to cure the blunders created in performing the first three. Throughout it all I gained a lot of benefits from many of the surgeries but I still had my headaches. Maybe now you can understand my amazement and jubilation when the headaches disappeared after having started on the mercury extraction supplements. One of the main symptoms of mercury poisoning is headaches. Too bad I didn't know this five operations ago. I extracted mercury from my system via Huggin's supplements for one year before I had my amalgams replaced with composite and porcelain. There is another headache that has occurred from the Chemical Sensitivities but it is totally different from the previous "mercury" headaches I just wrote about. These headaches are from coming into contact with a toxin that you are not able to deal with for one reason or another. Your head fills with PRESSURE, almost like someone has a balloon inside of your head and is blowing it up. Pain killers will NOT take this kind of a headache away. It took me years to discover what it was and what to do about it. As it turns out, I treat it like an allergy. I take Benedryl children's liquid allergy medicine when that type of a headache begins. The antihistamine used in Benedryl works well for me. You need to try the various antihistamines and discover which one works best for you. Before I discovered Benedryl, I would get a headache and it could last for days without any relief. I could not even raise or move my head the pressure was so bad. Over the years I learned to pin point what was causing the headaches. It always ended up being exposure to some form of toxin. Some examples are: vinyl seats in a new car, new furniture, new carpets, pesticides, chlorine, mold, mildew etc. All of these could be found when traveling, renting cars, hotel rooms etc. I use to always get "sick" when I traveled. (see subject TRAVEL-HOW TO STAY HEALTHY#68). We now only rent cars with leather seats ie Cadillac or Lincoln, and rent hotel rooms that do not have new furniture, new painting, or new carpets in them, also that they have windows that can be opened. That is a must. I always open a window as soon as I enter a rental and leave it open the entire time that I am there. Of course, that can only happen if there is not a large amount of carbon-monoxide coming into the window from car exhausts. So I always rent something away from the street and high enough to avoid the exhausts. With the knowledge I now have I can travel without incident or illness. When a "Chemical" headache starts I take one ounce of the liquid antihistamine found in Benadryl Allergy Liquid Medication (syrup). I found that the liquid is assimilated into the blood stream quickly, and the headache is usually gone in 20 to 30 minutes. This medication does cause one to become sleepy, so do not drive. I am not recommending that you try this without your doctor's approval. In some people this could be dangerous. Check with your doctor first before using over the counter drugs.
