Receptive To Bliss: Creating An Uncluttered Mind
By Debora Myers

Empty Your Mind - Go ahead, just try it. To become receptive to bliss we must gather and then dump all the clutter, static and mental lint that clings to our mind. It's kind of like cleaning out your closet in the fall to make room for the new. It makes sense. We need to clear our minds so that we have more room for input of positive programming and thoughts. We also will be better able to tune into ourselves, our desires, our erotic impulses and be less distracted by the buildup of life around us.

As we do so, we can consciously redirect our thoughts and influence our emotional surges into a more constructive life-way. Remember that the spiritual, physical, mental, emotional and environmental are interconnected. We are seeking to balance these aspects of our lives for a more blissful life.

We've all been there at one time or another. He's running his hand across your back and down your thigh. Kissing the back of your neck and groping into your panties. Or, you're sitting on the waterfront trying to enjoy the view but where are your thoughts?

You find yourself thinking about the chicken in the fridge that needs to be cooked before it goes bad or about the laundry you left in the washing machine to sour. These minor worries are easier to delete from your mind but they interfere with your bliss nonetheless. But what about the major worries that many in this world have?

Major worries or thoughts may require extra work when it comes to quieting our minds. I'm thinking about the sister that's child has just been diagnosed with Leukemia, or the sister living on the Gaza strip, or my brother that must fight in a war he doesn't support... How do you quiet your mind under such circumstances?

Discipline.

These are the circumstances and life lessons where we must give ourselves (even if only a few minutes a day) quiet of mind for a few minutes of bliss- of tuning into the higher love of the creator/creation and universal love consciousness.

This will help us to get through the next day and stay open for the little miracles that happen especially in the middle of war and crisis. We must look to the glass half full- we must keep open enough to the love in every situation.

Cleaning Out The Closet

The technique is simple. Under less drastic circumstances there is no real reason to make this process difficult. Try to prepare a physical environment that is conducive to relaxation. If you are in an environment that is distracting do the best you can. Do little meditations in quiet moments as circumstances allow.

My grandma-friend would call in "peace" between shelling during WWII when she lived in Poland. She would not only pray for an end to the war, she quieted her mind and let peaceful energy in so that she could have the strength to carry on and deal with the horrors of war, care for her family and deal with the Nazi's that had occupied her family home etc... The point is that she did make time and she did carry on and ended up with the clarity of mind to not only protect her family but she saved people by hiding them in her haystacks etc... Kept her family safe and outwitted the Nazi's! She is 87 and still working to help people today!

Breathe! Start with deep cleansing breaths, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. Breathe in deeply and expand your rib cage to inhale as deeply as possible. Quiet your mind. As the jabbering thoughts rush in and distract, acknowledge them but do not focus on them. Allow them to dissipate and continue with breathing. Focus on your breath. In and out, in and out... Practice will make perfect. Keep breathing.

Call in the Light! Say a prayer of protection and pull in the God/Goddess/Great Spirit/ Allah higher consciousness energy in to protect you. Whatever label or tradition you follow, pull in the love of creation and fill your heart, soul and body with this divine and universal love energy. This will keep you protected from negativity as you open yourself.

Visualize! A technique used to replace negative thoughts is to visualize something peaceful to focus on that visualization instead of the distracting thoughts. Many folks visualize themselves sitting on an abandoned beach and focus on the imaginary or cosmic waves crashing in. Some folks focus on a sunset, or rainfall... or the warmth of the "sun" on their shoulders as well as the deep breaths.

Distracting thoughts will come in less and less. As they do come in, however, focus on the visualization. This is a good tool to retrain your mind into settling down and quieting. Sometimes our subconscious mind is so full of fears and yucky stuff that very ugly and strange, disturbing images and thoughts may surface. Realize that it is simply your subconscious desperately trying to deal with life's problems. Don't take these images too seriously. Acknowledge them as fear based projections, and tell them that you see them, then release them.

Breathe! Continue Breathing! Use your breaths to help release your fears.

Allow yourself to come back up into your conscious, wakeful mind as you become overly distracted and fidgety. As with any discipline, practice makes perfect. At first you may just be able to meditate a few minutes at a time. But as your mind gets used to it and you establish a routine, you will be able to meditate and clear your mind for longer periods of time... therefore dealing with more distractions and negative programming.

As you practice this you will find that in conscious moments throughout your day, you'll be able to dump negative or distracting thoughts automatically. This is a learned behavior and ultimately only you can retrain yourself. You can always hire help to accelerate the process. A trained hypnotist, counselor, psychologist or psychiatrist can help you get started or help you deal with tougher issues seeming to plague your mind such as horrors of violent memories, abuse etc...

By clearing your mind of the negative input and distractions we leave space for the good stuff! Without all those distractions we will find that it is much easier to tune into all the beauty, love and bliss surrounding us! Blessed are we if we learn to look at the gifts bestowed upon us. Always take life one day at a time, live in the present and strive to move onward and upward.

You can create your own reality!
