Earlier this month, luxury Italian fashion and interiors house Missoni has finally opened the doors of its first hospitality property, Hotel Missoni Edinburgh, after four years of planning and building.

The 136-room hotel is the result of a collaborative work between one of the brand's founders, Rosita Missoni and the Rezidor Hotel Group, the company which is responsible for high-end hotel brands, such as Radisson SAS and Park Inn. The Edinburgh branch is the first in the chain, the next two are scheduled to be opened in Kuwait (late 2009) and in Oman (opening in 2012).

With a prime location on the corner of George IV Bridge and the Royal Mile, Hotel Missoni Edinburgh provides the timeless classic style, color and glamor of the brand to the life of a design conscious traveler. There are trademark zig-zags, geometric patterns, and splashes of bold color in combination with black and white on just about everything starting from walls, vases, plates, cushions, gorgeous bedding and flooring, the restaurant Cucina and Bar Missoni, and even towels in the bathrooms.

As the kitchen lies at the heart of an Italian family, so lies Hotel Missoni's restaurant Cucina at the heart of the hotel and is designed to seat up to 100 visitors. Open all day long from breakfast and until night, Cucina offers its guests a menu of fresh, seasonal and authentic Italian dishes. As to Bar Missoni, inspired by the Italian tradition of 'passeggiata,' it will be one of the places in Edinburgh to see and be seen. Located in the lobby of the hotel on the ground floor, Bar Missoni is able to welcome 50 guests and serves a variety of popular cocktails, including classic drinks, non-alcoholic beverages and recipes created particularly for the Bar.

Hotel Missoni also offers three private rooms for meetings and events, each stylishly designed in keeping with the Missoni signature style. The three rooms vary in size from 28 to 75 square metres, and the largest room can be split into two separate rooms. A fourth space (100 square metres) is available for use as a breakout area. Guestrooms and suites are also full of Missoni's unique touches: linens from Missoni Home; bathrobes, slippers, and toiletries designed exclusively for the hotel; and a signature Missoni perfume.

As it was mentioned before, Rosita Missoni's interior designs carry a simple black and white palette with bold flashes of color. Her design also incorporates the styles of designers whose big fan she herself appears to be, such as Marcel Wandes, Eero Saarinen, and Arne Jacobson. Iconic design pieces, including Hans J Wegner's Wishbone Chair, help define the hotel's unique style. As a tribute to the Scottish heritage, the designer has included pieces by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, such as his famous Ladderback Chair, for example. The lobby of Hotel Missoni Edinburgh also features two large mosaic urns, which will become one of a Hotel Missoni trademark.

An all inclusive room rate at Hotel Missoni Edinburgh will include breakfast, laundry, high-speed wireless internet, free local calls, films on demand, and the entire contents of the minibar, all included in the cost of the room.
